Pegah Pasalar

Pegah Pasalar is a visual artist whose practice is rooted in rethinking and tracing various forms of blanks—gaps, absences, and silences—as a means of exploring the possibility of otherwise. Their work speculates on the genesis of these blanks: the historical conditions that bring them into being, how they are perpetuated or refused, and the ecosystems they generate. Anchored in displacement as both a modality and a lens, their practice moves fluidly across media and methods, resisting fixed definitions and singular identification.

Pasalar was the Elaine G. Weitzen Studio Program Fellow at the Whitney Independent Study Program and holds an MFA in Film, Video, New Media, and Animation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They are the recipient of the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs grant, 3Arts’ “Make a Wave” grant, and the New Artist Society grant. They have also received fellowships and residencies from institutions including Kala Art Institute, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, and Yaddo. Pasalar has presented work at Framer Framed (NL), Westbeth, CUE Art Foundation, Kala Art Institute, and A.I.R. Gallery , where they were named the 2027 Louise H. McCagg Fellow.
