Miriam Parker

Miriam Parker is a New York–based interdisciplinary artist working across video, installation, performance, sculpture, and sound. Her work has been presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, MoMA PS1, The Shed, Pioneer Works, Roulette Intermedium, Fridman Gallery, National Sawdust, Anthology Film Archives, Yeh Art Gallery, and Vision Festival, as well as internationally at the Merz Festival in Berlin and École Normale Supérieure in Paris.

Parker’s visual practice has developed through moving-image works, sculptural installations, and performance environments. Projects include Sliding Fields, premiered at Roulette Intermedium in 2025; Center of the Fire, presented at Anthology Film Archives; Cosmologies, Movements and Proclamations for Peace at Yeh Art Gallery; Black Emergence at Pioneer Works; Baldwin, Urgency of Now, a two-channel video installation at ZAZ 10 Times Square; Surface at Vision Festival; and Heart Patterns. Across these works, video increasingly occupies architectural and material space rather than functioning only as a screen-based medium.

Parker has received support from the Brooklyn Arts Council, NYSCA, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation. Her residencies and fellowships include Baxter St at the Camera Club of New York, the Toulmin Fellowship through the Center for Ballet and the Arts and National Sawdust, Monira Foundation at Mana Contemporary, NARS Foundation, Black Artist Space to Create, Triskelion Arts, FiveMyles, Governors Island, and École Normale Supérieure. A residency at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is forthcoming.

Her background in dance, including her ongoing work with Yoshiko Chuma & The School of Hard Knocks since 2015, continues to inform her relationship to movement and space. Sustained artistic collaborations include Jo Wood-Brown, Craig Taborn, Luke Stewart, Merche Blasco, and Leo Chang. Parker’s current major project, The One Who Stands in the Center of the Fire, brings film, sculpture, responsive sound, and performance into an evolving installation developed through ongoing research with the Brooklyn Museum’s Egyptian collection.
