Jesus Benavente

Jesus Benavente’s performance work expands into sculpture, painting, video, and photography. As a Mexican-American from an impoverished community, he uses humor/comedy to define and pressure the constraints of culture and convention. At Bemis, he will work on a "live concert movie" video installation where the audience is replaced with an empty karaoke room revealing the politics inherent in performing popular music and the shifting agency of public life.
