Bemis’s Spring 2026 Sound Artist-in-Residence Mauricio López F. is multidisciplinary artist from Santiago, Chile currently based in Chicago. Emerging from Chile’s early experimental punk scene, he later studied Musical Composition at the Escuela Moderna de Música y Danza and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Aesthetics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica, focusing on the Chilean avant-garde scene. He recently completed an MFA in Sound at SAIC with a full scholarship. His practice explores the entanglement of visuality, sound, and motion through unexpected social synchronizations. López F. has received several recognitions, including the 2025 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant, the 2025 Municipal Art League of Chicago Award, the 2026-2027 fellowship from The Arts Club of Chicago, and he is a 2025–2027 Chicago Artist Coalition resident. His work has been presented across the Americas, Europe, and Japan, highlighting EXPO Chicago, the Chicago Architecture Biennial, and the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria.
