Bemis Center For Contemporary Arts

TIME + SPACE 4.2 ARTIST ISSUE 2020

When COVID-19 changed our lives forever, the livelihood of countless visual and performing artists was severely impacted: exhibitions, performances, residencies, commissions, visiting lectureships, and other professional opportunities vanished overnight. More importantly, perhaps, many artists lost the chance to create and share new work. It is within these circumstances we decided to handover Time + Space to artists Celeste Butler, Santiago Cal, Walker Greene, Dereck Higgins, Susan Knight, Shawnequa Linder, Alajia McKizia, Thalia Rodgers, Sarah Rowe, and Ella Weber, offering a new form of support that provided a creative, financial, and social outlet. New works of art created specifically for the format of our quarterly journal offer you a “hands-on” experience with the work of some of Omaha’s leading artists. While humble in scale and scope, this small gesture follows Bemis Center’s longstanding commitment and support of today’s artists. We are grateful to the participating artists and to our friends at Art Bridges for generously underwriting this issue of Time + Space. And to Bemis’s fans, we hope you find inspiration and comfort in the creativity expressed within these pages.
