Pocket Toscani

Minneapolis, MN

Pocket Toscani’s handmade objects are physical manifestations of cultural misfits. They are labored over, yet lack polish. Most of her work focuses on parody; satirizing the mainstream. She uses decorative arts and the quotidian to critique the world around us. Through found objects and raw materials, she creates hybrids of mass-produced and fabricated objects. Stylistically, the work comes across as awkward and self-effacing; it is this portal of vulnerability, in which she hopes the viewer enters. At Bemis, Toscani plans to work with assemblage, ceramics, collage, and video.
