Mimi Bai

Brooklyn, NY

Mimi Bai's work encompasses an individual practice focused on furniture, text, and drawing, and a collaborative practice that takes the form of sets and installations. In both, she examines interpersonal relationships and how they reproduce or complicate larger ideological and political values. Bai focuses on individual encounters as exercises to build up competency and muscle-memory, the skills to circumvent (even briefly) the logics of competition, scarcity, and isolation. During her time at Bemis, Bai wants to forge a new connection between these two aspects of her practice as she pursues the project of modeling alternate futures.
