Krišs Salmanis

Riga, Latvia

Krišs Salmanis uses animation, video, photography, objects, his body, trees, and words to probe the human condition. At Bemis, he plans to work on a stop-motion animation called Normalcy bias. The psychological phenomenon in the title refers to the refusal to plan for, or react to, an event which has never happened before. It is based on the premise that when a shed is built, it serves its time storing things and then collapses, and we rely on not having to think about it; taking things for granted allows us to operate without losing our minds over various possible scenarios, but it also makes us pass opportunities unnoticed.
