Rachel Dubuque grew up with an eccentric grandfather, whose house, unbeknownst to him, has been a revolving stage for artistic interventions. From the Florida room to the Weapons Parlor, the house is filled with gilded plates, cherub statues and plants and has created an ingrained ability to scrutinize domestic spaces. The artist’s colorful vignettes subvert such domestic scenes by subtly revealing apperception when an object transcends its original function and reveals its changing states. Dubuque earned her BFA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her MFA from the University of Georgia in Athens. She has shown her work widely at venues such as the Athens Institute for Contemporary Art (Athens, GA), the Contemporary Arts Center (Shippensburg, PA), Future Tenant Gallery (Pittsburgh, PA), Madison Museum of Fine Art (Madison, GA) and Christine Ferchard Gallery (Pittsburgh, PA).
