Amanda Valdez

Brooklyn, NY
March 3rd - May 23rd, 2014

In her paintings Amanda Valdez makes something whole: it can all be there - the light, the joy and the seduction, but there is always a lurking moment to see beyond the wholeness into the anxiety of fragmentation. She thinks about what the body feels: extreme pleasure and pain, with their paradox highlighting her interest in paradoxes in general as well as how they are productive locations for her work. The artist has had residencies at Yaddo and the MacDowell, and her work has been featured on the Huffington Post, New American Paintings and Hyperallergic. Valdez earned her MFA from Hunter College in New York City and BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and also at Utrecht University in The Netherlands.
