April Behnke’s drawings and paintings explore the meaning of the term nature, both in the sense of the natural world and of human or animal nature.

April Behnke received a BFA from Cornell University in 2006 and a MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in May. She has exhibited works nationally and internationally, including group shows in Los Angeles, New York, London, Berlin, and Cape Town as well as a solo exhibition at the Janet Oh Gallery in Seoul. April was awarded a residency from the Slak Foundation and Plaats Maken in the Netherlands, an Artist Fellowship from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Elizabeth Graham Scholarship from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. April lives and works in Washington DC.
