Saul Becker

Saul Becker negotiates among personal narratives, authorship, human experience and the possibilities of place. Intrigued by the way Renaissance painters overtly used calculated grids to establish perspective, his paintings express the nuances of his own experiences in the three-dimensional world and reflect his own keen interest in maps and the representation of statistical data. The Seattle-based artist notes: “With my paintings, I am seeking to explore the clash between the strangeness of statistical imagery and classical depictions of landscape, combined with the tiny personal maps that are my fingertips.” Becker received his BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax and also studied in Lisbon, Portugal and Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has exhibited in a variety of art venues and has received several grants, including the Artist Trust Gap Grant in 2002.
