About the Nebraska Arts Council (NAC) Individual Artist Fellowship and Exhibition:
NAC awards the Individual Artist Fellowship (IAF) every three years to visual artists in recognition of exemplary work. For 2007, NAC awarded a total of $20,000 to fourteen artists, all living and working in Nebraska. (See complete list below.) The IAF Fellowship Awards include three categories: Distinguished Artist Award; Merit Award; and 2007 Fellows. For this competitive program, a NAC panel adjudicates the applicants according to the merit of the work, judging it first and foremost on quality, which includes innovation demonstrated by significant critical and aesthetic considerations explored through different art forms. In 2004, the Bemis Center began a tradition of further honoring these exceptional artists by featuring them triennially in an exhibition. This year marks the second IAF exhibition presented by the Bemis Center and its largest installation, to date, at over 5,000 square feet. State of the Art at the Bemis Center complements the IAF by showcasing the breadth and depth of the work created by the individual recipients and by providing the public with the opportunity to view just how profoundly visual artists impact the quality of life in Nebraska.
