A standing room only crowd of over 700 greeted Bemis Center board members Christo and Jeanne-Claude Tuesday night in a career-spanning lecture by the legendary environmental artists whose work has been seen by countless millions around the globe...
From The Gates (1979 – 2005) and Wrapped Reichstag (1971 – 1995) to their in-progress works Over the River in Colorado and The Mastaba in the United Arab Emirates, the artists captivated an edge-of-their-seats crowd with compelling insights – often punctuated by the duo’s trademark witty banter – into work that, as Jeanne-Claude is quick to remind us, never strays far from the simple idea of creating that which is “joyful and the beautiful.”
"Our works are like our children,” Jeanne-Claude explained, ”They come out of our two hearts and two heads.”
