Bemis Center For Contemporary Arts

Over 250 people turned out on Saturday, August 25th, as Eddie Dominguez set his O! sculpture ablaze in a dramatic celebration of art and community spirit. People of all ages, from babies to grandparents, joined together as UMB Bank, Alegent Health and the Omaha Chamber of Commerce passed out s’mores candy bars and O! balloons. With the aid of art students, Dominguez doused his O! in lighter fluid and then set it alight in a new take on the old tradition of the community bonfire. UMB bank played songs like “C'mon baby light my fire" and "We didn't start the fire" as flames leapt to the sky. The spectacle was truly amazing, with the O! transforming constantly as it burned. Omaha firemen became part of the artistic process by putting out the flames to reveal the truly unique piece of public sculpture.

The Bemis Center extends special thanks to Alegent Health, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, UMB Bank, Hobby Lobby, the Omaha Fire Department and Jeff Green with Davis Erection Company for their sponsorship and participation in this one-of-a-kind event.
