Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts Announces July - December 2006 Artists-in-Residence

The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is extremely pleased to announce its roster of upcoming Artists-in-Residency for July through December, 2006. For this residency cycle, 266 artists submitted applications, and 19 different countries were represented, including South Korea, Finland, Nigeria, Turkey, Poland, Switzerland, Ireland, Cuba and Peru. Only 14 artists were selected, with six applicants also designated as alternates. Three arts professionals served on a blind jury, convening at the Bemis Center on Thursday, October 20th, for the day-long selection process. Ce Scott, Director of Residency and Exhibition Programs at the McColl Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, NC, Michael Sarich, painter and sculptor and Bemis Center Alumnus, Associate Professor of Art, University of Nevada Reno and Littleton Alston, sculptor and Associate Professor of Art at Creighton University all generously devoted their time and expertise, ultimately selecting artists from the disciplines of painting, sculpture, installation art, animation, drawing, printmaking, video art and digital photography.

Residency Program Director Cary Tobin notes: “The applicant pool was particularly impressive for this cycle and highly indicative of the wide array of talent the Bemis Center attracts from around the world. The jurors certainly had a challenge, and we are looking forward to welcoming such an impressive group of artists to Omaha during 2006.”
