Everyone Made Time 4 Love

Even torrential downpours and bone-chilling temperatures couldn’t keep art lovers from making Time 4 Love during Valentine’s Day weekend. Over three hundred people braved the pouring rain to come to the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art on Saturday, February 12, for its second annual Valentine’s celebration and silent auction. Attendees sipped champagne and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres as they admired more than one hundred unique clocks created specifically for the event by local, regional and national artists. Ticking clocks and silent bidding comprised the first part of the evening, as patrons vied over varied works by artists such as Larry Ferguson, Steve Joy, Misha Gordin and Wanda Ewing. By the time bidding closed, the ticking clocks raised over $7,000 for the Bemis Center Education Program, which funds educational outreach projects, including lectures and workshops.

After the silent auction, art patrons celebrated their purchases in the Bemis Center’s Love Lounge, where they danced the night away in an atmosphere of art, romance and genuine celebration. Mark Masuoka, the Bemis Center’s Executive Director, says: “We are really pleased with our Valentine’s auction. This is the second year we held the event, and people had a really fun time. It’s truly wonderful to see how much they value our Education Program.” “And,” he added, “some of the best original art in Omaha.”
