Foundation and Corporate Giving Assistant

Bemis Center is seeking a Foundation and Corporate Giving Assistant to help to advance the organization’s mission.

The Foundation and Corporate Giving Assistant will work directly with the Development Director, Chief Curator and Director of Programs, and the Executive Director to develop Bemis Center’s growing foundation and corporate giving program and secure support for annual operations, programmatic activities, strategic initiatives, and capital projects. Reporting to the Development Director, the Foundation and Corporate Giving Assistant will participate in researching and identifying prospective funders, preparing proposal materials, facilitating recognition and other benefits of sponsorship, and fulfilling other grantor guidelines. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Foundation Giving:

  • Research and identify national and international grant opportunities that relate to the organization’s mission and activities
  • Maintain grant application and reporting calendar through eTapestry
  • Assist in writing compelling grant proposals and narratives that align with each individual funder
  • Draft timely gift acknowledgment letters to foundation funders and other correspondence as required
  • Ensure compliance with grant terms and restrictions, including preparation of interim and final reports

Corporate Giving:

  • Research and identify national and international corporations with philanthropic interests in the arts and/or that have a history of sponsorship
  • Draft sponsorship presentations including benefits to attract each individual funder
  • Draft timely gift acknowledgment letters to corporate funders and other correspondence as required
  • Assist in the fulfillment of corporate sponsor benefits, such as organizing private events
  • Ensure sponsor recognition requirements are fulfilled, working with Communications team


  • 1–3 years experience as a development/administrative professional, preferably in the context of a small-to-medium-size arts organization or other nonprofit organization
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree; concentration in English, Creative Writing, Arts Administration, Art History or similar field preferred
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including Board Members, strategic partners, and the public
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database experience preferred; Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Ability to act with excellent judgment and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Strong organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail
  • Creative and strategic thinker with the capacity to take initiative and to work independently and as a team player in a fun, yet demanding arts organization
  • Ability to assist with special events outside of regular business hours on occasion
  • Understand and promote Bemis Center’s mission in a clear, spirited manner
  • Successful reference check


Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Benefit package provided, including medical, paid holidays, and paid time off.
