The aim of Mark Vennegoor's art-making is to construct, deconstruct and reconstruct structures that intersect in natural, social and economic domains and to challenge collective mind constructions. Like a ceramist is molding clay, Vennegoor sees himself as “molding structures”. He is especially interested in structures that have an impact on everyday life and seem to trigger a vicious circle. Mark likes to challenge these existing structures in order to stimulate reflection on habits, normative behavior and routines, and to eventually explore alternatives.
After receiving his master in International Business Administration and having worked for several years as a “high potential” employee in the corporate world, Vennegoor decided to change his career path rigorously and “invest” in my art practice by doing the art academy of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.
