Cey Adam's work explores the relationship between transformation and discovery.
His process involves dismantling various imagery and paper elements to build multiple layers of color, texture, shadow and light. Adams is a graphic designer and former graffiti writer who draws inspiration from 1960's pop art, sign painting, comic books and popular culture. His work focuses on themes including pop culture, race and gender relations, cultural and community issues. The artist has shown his work at venues such as the Museum of the City of New York and the New Museum (NYC), the GRAMMY Museum (Los Angeles CA) and Red Bull Gallery, Sydney, Australia. Adam’s special projects include LL Cool J, The Future Sounds (Sony Dolby Laboratories, NYC), JanSport, Luggage Design, Adidas Adicolor, Apparel Design, (Berlin, Germany) Hennessy Cognac, Tastemakers Campaign and Nike, PSAL Basketball Campaign. His work has been featured in publications such as Def Jam Recordings: The First 25 Years of the Last Great Record Label 1984-2009, Hip Hop: A Cultural Odyssey, I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution and Piecebook Reloaded: Rare Graffiti Drawings, 1985-2005, among numerous others.
