Ben Murray’s atmospheric images depict banal objects and places as transformed by the effects of memory, mood and painterly improvisation. Through painting and sculpture, he develops a conversation between the absence and presence of a body that struggles to find position in an environment in a state of constant flux. He received his MFA from the University of Illinois in 2013. The artist has shown his work internationally at venues such as the ASU Gallery, (Phoenix, AZ), West Pilsen Sculpture Garden (Chicago, IL), Mona Bismarck Foundation (Paris, France) and Espace Melanie (Riec-sur-Belon, France) and has had residencies at the Institut Für Alles Mögliche (Berlin, Germany) and Ox-Bow (Saugatuck, MI). Murray earned his BFA from the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and was a recent MFA resident at Ox-Bow in Saugatuck, MI.
