Rebekah Bogard is interested in the idea of "cute"and girlish iconography and redefining stereotypes that apply to young women. She sees these images as part of a visual language used to typecast girls as weak, naive, a sweet, characteristics that make them socially vulnerable. The artist incorporates this stereotypical iconography into a large-scale ceramic format (four to six feet), and with a twist of sly sexuality, she redefines this stereotype in order to use it in a positive way. In this regard, both scale and design remain essential elements that empower her work. Bogard received her BFA from the University of Wyoming and an MFA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In addition to working as an Assistant Professor of Ceramics at the University of Nevada, Reno, she has received numerous awards, including being named an "Emerging Artist" by Ceramics Monthly Magazine. Bogard has also shown her work in several solo and groups shows.
