Ian Harvey

Sacramento, CA
July 1 - August 31, 2006
Painting

Through his paintings, Harvey seeks to engage the margins of experience where instability, suspension, ambiguity and ambivalence necessarily characterize content. For him, painting is a language of inquiry a responsive and resilient vehicle with which to explore the evolving boundaries of experience in the present. The artist works on large-scale mixed media paintings on wood panels whose expansive surfaces allow him to engage the diverse languages of abstraction and representation in an open dialogue. Harvey received his BA from Wesleyan University and an MFA from Columbia University, School of the Arts. The artist has exhibited his work widely, including in a solo show at the Bemis Center in 2003, and he has received grants from such prestigious organizations as the Artist Resource Trust and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Harvey teaches painting and drawing at the California State University, Sacramento, CA.
