Debbie Han

Los Angeles, CA
October 2 - December 29, 2006
Mixed Media

Debbie Han’s work frequently deals with unfamiliar and cultural experiences, and she explores issues of cultural identity and conventional and often contradictory stereotypical perceptions that permeate every level of society. In so doing, she challenges stereotypes, forcing her viewers to reevaluate their thinking about such challenging issues as what constitutes ideal beauty. In her current photo project, the artist examines the social dynamics of cross-cultural dating in urban American cities, and she also plans to execute a sculpture dealing with similar content. Han received her BA from the University of California, Los Angeles and an MFA from the Pratt Institute. She has had both solo and group exhibitions in the US and Korea, and her work has been reviewed in publications such as Artplus, Boston Magazine and Asian Art News.
