Currently a member of the faculty at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Santiago Cal notes that his sculptural pieces are inspired by “chance encounters, dreams and ideas rooted in literature.” He is interested in working with the human image and its implications and explores these themes by using fragments and symbolism. Born in San Ignacio, Belize, Santiago Cal received his BA from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and his MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He has exhibited widely, including shows in Spain, Mexico, Guatemala and Taiwan. He has also been an artist in residence at the Gruber-Jez Foundation in Cholul, Mexico and at the Poustinia Land Art Park in Belize.
