A Momentary Event With a Sculpture: When the Curtain Drops
Time: Gather 3:45pm
Event 4:10 sharp
Okada Sculpture Facility (Directly across the street from Bemis Center)

Current artist-in-residence Ian McMahon's temporal sculptures imbed themselves within architecture, existing as moments defined between the actions of construction and destruction. Recently, pushing how the inevitable demise of the work finds its way into the finished product, McMahon has begun to stage and film these events. Using his residency at Bemis as ground for exploration he will be presenting this demise publicly. A work constructed with this action in mind, designed and built for the Okada building, will be destroyed with a present audience. Please join us after open studios to participate in this explorative event.

Bemis Center is widely regarded as a leader and innovator in the international field of artist communities. Bemis Center’s residency program provides artists with time, space and support, allowing artists to take creative risks in complete freedom and without expectation. Each year, over 1,200 artists apply for only 36 annual fellowships.

Open Studios presents an opportunity for the public to come meet this exceptional group and experience the Bemis Center’s core mission firsthand. The artists will be available to show you their studio, talk about their process, and give you a look at what they've been working on. This event is free and open to the public. Free parking available from 1:00 -4:00pm.
