First Thursday Art Talk for August

Description: Join us as current artists-in-residence Hendrikje Kuehne | Beat Klein, Brian Porray, and Jason Mones present their work during the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts’ First Thursday Art Talk on August 2, 2012 at 7:00 pm. As always, Art Talk is free and open to the public.

Hendrikje Kuehne | Beat Klein, the 2012 Emmy Gifford Fellows, are visual artists whose work focuses on landscape in the broadest sense. Their work ranges from sticker books, large installations, photographic works and videos. Recently, Kühne and Klein developed a concept of the ideal landscape from the theme of paradise gardens collected from historical paintings.

Brian Porray makes paintings, collages and drawings of corrupted systems on the verge of collapse. He spins his history and obsessions with science and technology, creating a toxic language through which he depicts raucous psychedelic environments.

Jason Mones' recent paintings focus on the current economic and political environment, ultimately exploring a broader interest in the human condition. He received his MFA from Yale University in 2008 and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.
