First Thursday Art Talk for September

Description: Join us as current artists-in-residence Chinatsu Ikeda, Karen Irmer and Meredith James present their work during the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts’ First Thursday Art Talk on September 6, 2012 at 7:00 pm. As always, Art Talk is free and open to the public.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Chinatsu Ikeda is the 2012 Weitz Family Foundation Fellow. Her colorful and playful paintings are influenced by everyday phenomena such as snow and light. Ikeda received an MFA and BFA in painting from the School of the Art Institute Chicago. The artist lives and works in Japan.
Karen Irmer creates ethereal photographs in which her subjects are reduced to a trace. Irmer did her artistic training at the Akademie der Künste in Munich. Her work can be found at interna- tional art fairs and exhibitions. In 2011 she was invited, together with the Israeli sculptor Uriel Miron, to realize an exhibition project at the Fresh Paint Contemporary in Tel Aviv, Israel. The artist lives and works in Augsburg, Bavaria.
Meredith James, the 2012 Schnackel Fellow, is interested in the practice of disruption. Her work features subjective architecture from memories or dreams of places. She builds physically impossible spaces out of found materials, allowing the materials to dictate the ultimate form of the sculpture. The resulting constructions reveal an attempt to translate cerebral experiences into discrete objects and videos.
