Bemis Gardens Design Charrette

el dorado architects

Please join us for several upcoming events in conjunction with the Bemis Gardens exhibition and design laboratory. The Bemis Center is hosting weekly charrettes and dialogues that will convene professionals from diverse fields to consider macro urban land use futures and speculate on specific possibilities for the Bemis Center’s site. The charrettes are intended as collaborative dialogues and will be formalized as actionable proposals. This process will take place in the gallery and be presented in real-time through lectures, renderings and fabricated prototypes.

PREVIOUS CHARRETTES
Charrette 2: Thursday May 5, 4 p.m | Anne Trumble: What is a Garden?!
Landscape Designer Anne Trumble presented a rapid fire slide show spanning garden histories. Her perhaps overwhelming, somewhat humorous, dizzying, broadening presentation will offer a hypothesis on the space between agrarian and perspectival "gardens." Addressing issues related to organic farming, stormwater collection, community gardens, and farmers markets, Trumble says "Yes, these things make plants and our interaction with them more multi-functional, but are they ultimately limited? Missing something? Or are we not doing them enough? Could we brainstorm evolutions of them that layer even more types of systems?"

Charrette 3: Thursday May 12, 4 p.m | Peter P. Goché: Water Hutch
Charrette 3 was conducted by Peter P. Goché. Participants include Elizabeth Zimmerman (musician), Annie Binder (Poet), Scott Ricketts (Writer), John Kerner (Design student, ISU), Jasmine Singh (Design student, ISU). This public workshop included a series of oratories presented by Peter P. Goché, Annie Binder and Scott Ricketts; a musical performance by Elizabeth Zimmerman; the development of a literary piece and the fabrication of a 1:1 paper landscape for the hutch. These initial works (written and visual) were further developed over the course of a ten-day visiting artist's residency.

Charrette 4: Thursday May 19, 4 p.m | Min | Day with Jeff Day and E.B. Min
