Bemis Center receives $25,000 grant from Lincoln Financial Foundation in support of Underground exhibitions, events and programs.
In recognition of our dynamic local arts community, the Lincoln Financial Foundation has awarded the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts support of its innovative Underground exhibition program. The Bemis Center's Underground exhibition program was developed to extend the Bemis Center's mission to support exceptional talent through programming that directly impacts the arts community of Omaha and to provide exhibition opportunities for artists in our local community.
The Underground actively stimulates discussion and conceptualization of contemporary art through monthly programs including gallery talks and social events — all aimed at making the arts more accessible and engaging to our community. According to Executive Director Mark Masuoka, "innovation is at the forefront of Lincoln Financial and the Bemis Center's exhibition program in the Underground continues to take the lead as a cultural hub and beacon for creativity by providing direct support and opportunities to local artists and Omaha's cultural community."
In 2011, the first Bemis Center Regional Exhibition will be presented in the Bemis Underground gallery. The Bemis Center is launching this exhibition to highlight new talent and perspectives and to establish new connections across contemporary art practices within the greater Omaha, Lincoln and Missouri Valley region. Expanding the Bemis Center’s mission to support exceptional talent, this exhibition provides the opportunity for emerging artists to present their work alongside mid-career and established artists in the cultural hub of eastern Nebraska’s contemporary arts community.
