The Bemis Center was once again the most provocative space in town last Saturday as Cinema Zero and Spires That in the Sunset Rise splashed Gallery 3 with a cacophony of film, noise and searing ideas...
The event was part of Endless Summer, the exhibition-in-motion now extended through September 11th. Cinema Zero's Amy Granat, a 2008 Whitney Biennial participant, brought an eclectic blend of collaborators that included a lecture by St. Louis’ White Flag Projects founder Matthew Strauss on forgotten American sculptor Ernest Trova, heaving drones from Omaha band FATHR^, paintings and music by Jacob Kassay and films by Robert Smithson (Spiral Jetty), Steven Parrino (Necropolis) and Dan Graham (Rock My Religion).
It was all capped off by an intense and mesmerizing set from Secret Eye recording artists Spires That in the Sunset Rise.
