New collaboration with Film Streams debuts
Curator Hesse McGraw was joined by a quartet of Bemis Center resident artists in a provocative conversation with the audience after a screening of Robert Bresson’s Au hazard Balthazar at Film Streams.
The Thursday, June 12 event was the first in the Arthouse: Bemis Artists Talk Film series, a new collaboration with Film Streams that explores art as film and film as art. Bemis Center residents Jon Bissonette, Adam Frelin, Janelle Iglesias and Aili Schmeltz joined McGraw to add insights on Bresson’s film, which is widely considered to be one of cinema’s most spiritually transcendent works. An audience of over 50 attended the screening and the post-show conversation. Not surprisingly, the lively banter reminded us all that film, like all contemporary art, allows ample space for imaginations to interpret works in unique and often divergent ways.
