Did You Know. . . Hollywood and the 9th Annual Art Auction

Did you know. . .

. . .that the Bemis Center Art Auction has a little touch of Hollywood? From filmmakers to those who have participated in the filmmaking process, the artists featured in our auction have been at the cutting-edge of the red carpet.

Did you know. . .

. . .that in 1974 photographer Douglas Kent Hall won the Academy Award in the category Best Documentary Feature for The Great American Cowboy? And that's just one small example of what this prolific artist has accomplished throughout his career.

Did you know. . .

. . .that noted German filmmaker Wim Wenders (Wings of Desire) is a fan of painter and photographer Christian Rothmann? Rothman's abstract works serve as vibrantly bright compositions of color and form of which Wenders says: "Christian Rothmann is an etymologist of the language of painting."

Did you know. . .

. . .that the other Academy Award winner in our line-up Alexander Payne, who garnered the gold statuette for his film Sideways in the category of "Best Adapted Screenplay." Payne has donated walk-on roles for two people in his next film - a movie he's returning to Omaha to shoot. With the acclaimed filmmaker's work including Citizen Ruth, Election and About Schmidt, you know your appearance will be in a film that will have the critics buzzing.

Did you know. . .

. . .that multi-media artist, singer/songwriter and composer Donald Rubinstein scored numerous films? These include: George A. Romero's cult classic film "Martin" (1977), which Mojo named "One of the Top 100 Coolest Soundtracks of All Time." "Tangled Up in Bob," the soundtrack for the film about Bob Dylan's early life; and "The Unused Score For Pollock," commissioned and recorded (but not used) for the Ed Harris feature film "Pollock."
