DISCOVER OMAHA OPENED UP A WHOLE NEW WORLD
Posted on 03/09/2007
On Tuesday, May 15, viewers and participants alike discovered Omaha in new and unexpected ways during the public celebration of Discover Omaha, our fifth Art 4 Omaha public art project, at Qwest Center Omaha. Roger Dixon, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA), shared his excitement about the project as he unveiled the 80-foot photomontage and sixteen 6x8 photographs, which are installed in the Qwest Center’s landings and stairwells. Groups of young photographers who participated in the project clustered around the photomontage, trying to find their photographs and showing excitement for the project and their own involvement. Our Community Arts Program Director Natalie Linstrom presented certificates to all photographers, many of whom said that they loved the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing project – and that they would continue to pursue photography in their spare time.
Hearty congratulations to Natalie Linstrom for bringing an amazing piece of public art to all of Omaha, and even more importantly, for kindling a love of art as well as pride in civic involvement for all the kids who discovered Omaha and a new sense of self.
