Slide into Slide Jam: Five Fast, Furious Minutes, Thursday, March 10th, at 7:00 p.m
Posted on 02/04/2005
Last July at the height of summer’s white hot heat, local artists were staying cool. In fact they were being cool. That’s because Omaha’s artists were slammin’; Omaha’s artists were slidin’; Omaha’s artists were Slide Jammin.’ It was fast; it was furious; it was the bomb; it was a blast. It was Slide Jam. In fact, it was so much fun that the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts isn’t going to wait until next July to hold another one. We’re going to turn up the heat on March and bring in spring with our second Slide Jam on Thursday, March 10th, at 7:00 p.m. A reception will also be held in honor of the artists brave enough to Slide Jam, and both events are free and open to the public.
During Slide Jam, community artists give five minute presentations of their work. In turn, these artists all invite an artist of their choice to be in the spotlight for five minutes. It’s a suspense-filled night. What will the artists do during their five minutes? Will they show slides? Bring their work? Do a performance? Be accompanied by lute, harp or flute? Tap dance, perchance?
And what happens if anyone goes over their five minutes? They get the gong! Our merciless, ruthless master of ceremonies will cut off the artist’s Slide Jam with no pity, no remorse, no second chance. After all, an additional ten seconds just takes away from the next artist's five minutes.
It might not be the fifteen minutes of fame that Andy Warhol promised, but then again, he never attended a slammin’ Slide Jam! So slide into the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and watch our local artists try their hands at their five minutes of fame. Slide Jam, Thursday, March 10th, 7:00 p.m.: it’s high drama infused with nail-biting suspense. And the gong.
