Underground Curator

Joel Damon curates exhibitions for the Bemis Underground, the gallery space on the lower level of the Bemis Center. He is responsible for working with exhibiting artists and coordinating Underground programming.

Since early 2008, Joel began as an intern at the Bemis Center and later became an assistant preparator and facilities assistant. During his time at Bemis, he began curating and organizing independent exhibitions around the Omaha Metro Area. Notable exhibitions curated include Mountain of Sex, RNG Gallery, Unwashed, Bancroft Street Market (2009 OEA Award Winner: Best Group Show) and Destroy Rebuild Repeat, a group exhibition spanning 3 vacant spaces and 2 city blocks in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Damon is also as a practicing artist and his paintings are included in many private collections throughout the region.

Damon has also helped to develop arts programming for the impoverished at a local outreach center and sits on the Board of Directors for the Octopuses Garden Art Alliance: an Omaha-based non-profit dedicated to strengthening community interaction through the arts.
