Executive Director / Chief Executive Officer

Since 2003, Executive Director and CEO Mark Masuoka, has taken the Bemis Center to a whole new level of civic engagement and cultural relevancy as one of the leading artist-in-residence programs in the world.

Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Mark Masuoka earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Hawaii in 1983 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1987.

In 1989, he founded the Mark Masuoka Gallery in Las Vegas, Nevada. After four years in the commercial art business, he entered the non-profit arena and was appointed Director of the Nevada Institute for Contemporary Art in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shortly after relocating to Denver, Colorado in 1999, he became Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver. Masuoka has served as an advisor and panelist for the Alliance of Artists Communities, Joyce Foundation, Joan Mitchell Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts and the Omaha Chamber of Commerce. Currently, he serves on the board of directors of the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and Why Arts?
